The heat sink is an essential part of all computers. Without it the temperature will increase in a few seconds or minutes and the computer will shut down automatically when it detects a high temperature. If the computer does not correctly detect the temperature and it does not shut down it will keep working until the processor melts and becomes unusable.
Our customer had a problem with several computers as the pins that hold the heat sink were broken and the heat sink was not making good contact. We soldered back the pins into the mother board so that the heat sink could be installed properly.
Soldering pins in the mother board is a very delicate process and destroying the mother board is very likely if you don’t know what you are doing.
